Lenten Artist in Residence

Katherine Owen

Katherine Owen is a potter, an artist and a dreamer. Living in the incredibly beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of NC and spending lots of time in her studio, Katherine enjoys being creative and getting messy as her full-time profession. She also likes learning, as is evident by lots of time spent in school. A B.A. in Religion from William and Mary, an M.R.E. from Duke Divinity School and a B.F.A. from Converse College round out the formal part of her education. She continues to learn from reading, observation, nature, friends, time spent with other artists and reflection.

Her pottery celebrates the loving kindness and light of life in her mountains with lush trees, brilliant sunrises, peaceful mountains and singing birds. The inspirational quotes on many of her pieces bring the spirit of goodness and hope into the world.

Praying with Clay - April 7th, 5:00 p.m.

Katherine will lead the group in reflecting on scripture related to healing (Sunday’s worship focus). By touching and molding and stretching and wondering with clay, we will viscerally enter into a space with God as we ponder what it means to heal and be healed. This will be done largely in silence.

Brokenness into Healing - April 8th, 6:00 p.m.

Katherine will lead this group in pondering what it means to be broken personally and collectively, then what it means to be healed. As a physical manifestation of this, we will create together a single piece of art with broken pieces of pottery. No artistic ability is necessary at all! We will be doing this together.
